District 9 Team Member Spotlight
Katiria Rojas-Turnbull, Deputy Superintendent
Katiria Rojas-Turnbull is a visionary educator and equity-driven leader whose career has been deeply rooted in the heart of District 9. Her journey began in the classroom, where she spent five transformative years as a teacher, cultivating a learning environment grounded in empathy, rigor, and high expectations. From the very beginning, Katiria held a steadfast belief: all students can learn—once you meet them at their entry point. This philosophy became the cornerstone of her leadership approach and continues to guide her work today.
In 2013, Katiria transitioned into school leadership as an assistant principal, where she quickly distinguished herself through her commitment to instructional excellence and inclusive practices. Her ability to connect with students, families, and staff alike made her a trusted figure in the community and a catalyst for school-wide growth.
By 2016, Katiria was appointed principal of The STEAM Bridge School in District 11, a role that allowed her to fully realize her vision for equitable education. Under her leadership, the school became a beacon of excellence, innovation and inclusivity. She championed differentiated instruction, ensuring that every student—regardless of background, ability, or circumstance—had access to the tools and support they needed to thrive. Her relentless focus on student-centered learning and culturally responsive pedagogy empowered both educators and learners to shine. Throughout her tenure, Katiria remained deeply committed to dismantling barriers and expanding opportunities for all students. Her work was not just about academic achievement—it was about affirming the dignity and potential of every child. She fostered a school culture where curiosity was celebrated, voices were valued, and excellence was expected.
In the summer of 2025, Katiria returned home to District 9 in a new capacity: Deputy Superintendent. In this role, she brings her classroom wisdom, school leadership experience, and unwavering belief in educational equity to the district level. Her mission is clear—to ensure that every school in D9 reflects the promise of public education: a place where all students are seen, supported, and set up to succeed.
